I'M IN INDIA UNTIL 2012!

I'M IN INDIA UNTIL 2012! - Shardana Yoga Ashraya
The centre is entirely devoted to promoting and spreading the teachings of the Great Yoga Master Shri BKS Iyengar throughout Sardinia, Italy.

Shardana Yoga Ashraya carries out the following activities:
Yoga for Adults - asana and introduction to pranayama
Yoga for Children (from 6 to 12 years)
Talks about Yoga Philosophy
Chanting of Sacred Texts (Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads etc)

The centre is named after the ancient warriors Shardana, sea people who settled in Sardinia around the II millennium B.C. and from whom the name of the island appears to derive. The name has been chosen also for the unusual assonance with the Sanskrit language. Ashraya in Sanskrit means shelter, asylum. The centre has therefore been created to offer a place of refuge for the practice of Yoga and a place of study of this ancient discipline to the modern Shardanas and to anyone interested in their own evolution.

The logo represents a lotus flower, symbol of purity, with eight petals (one for each limb of yoga). In the centre the yoga pose Virabhadrasana I, dedicated to the powerful warrior Virabhadra, created out of Shiva’s wrath to punish an offence the God had received. The Sanskrit term kshatriya, attribute of the warrior cast, means ‘he who protects a man from the violence of others’, from Sanskrit kshan (to hurt) and trayate (to protect). Warriors in ancient times were therefore those who provided protection and fought on religious principles. In their code of conduct they were not allowed to be the first to offend.

Arjuna, the main character of the Bhagavad Gita is the embodiment of the virtuous warrior to whom Krishna imparts the most confidential knowledge: Yoga.

Perform your duty equipoised, o Arjuna, abandoning attachment (to the fruits of actions) and becoming indifferent  to success and failure. Such equanimity is called Yoga
Bhagavad Gita, II, v.48
